“In a world with diamonds in the night sky and vast oceans filled with the lifeblood of our planet, what can someone insignificant like me say through my creations? I have lived in pursuit of an answer to this question.
    Then I found the stone.
Carving marble is like facing my essence as a child. A journey of the mind that brings me back to my distant memories. Through this realization I rediscovered the meaning of creation.”
For the close up cycle Il Ponte dedicates the exhibition Viaggio alle origini (Journey to the origins) to the young artist Aki Mimura. On show six sculptures in marble and bronze made during her stay in the city of Carrara.
“…Aki, like a modern demiurge that carves the stone, smooths it, caresses it, follows its natural inclinations, dialogues with the material; she expresses the testimony of a life experience, the passage of a living being on earth, the will to transfer into the work of art a desire of harmony with creation, personal but universal.” (Riccardo Forfori in the catalog)

Aki Mimura was born in 1983 in Shonan, a seaside area in Japan, where her love for nature started.
In 2007 Aki acquired a degree in Product Design from Tama Art University in Tokyo. After graduation, she built her career as a professional watch designer at Seiko Watch Corporation, having a standout watch-design technique that required an extraordinary delicate attention to detail.
Later, driven by the desire to broaden her horizons, she departs on a trip to Africa, staying in Kenya and Tanzania. The beauty of this continent awakens in her the harmony with the natural world that she instills in her works.
In 2019 she moved to Milan and began to devote himself to sculpture and painting. Later she moves to Carrara for the tradition of this city with marble, a material that here she learns to love and sculpt, in a creative process that expresses her journey through life.
